about

organisms are grown rather than constructed according to flat-pack furniture instructions. This performance is as much a product of the organist’s response to the materials I have provided as it is a product of my compositional artifice, and performers and composer can share the praise and blame alike. The linguistic confusion of physical organs and the instrumental organ, and the distributed nature of many instruments’ ‘lungs’, pipes, and interfaces remains an abiding source of inspiration for this work, and the electronics here seek to extend that idea further as well as imitating and co-opting the various acoustics of the building itself (which itself becomes part of this organism—foreign vegetation taking root—instigation of symbiotic relationship in sound).
