imagined method is an acousmatic piece, created using samples from my rehearsals with The Cantate Choir for their concert on 22nd June 2019, and from that concert. There is an opposition between the ‘live’ sound of the voice and the sounds of processed voices that sound deliberately ‘constructed’ or ‘unreal’. Further sounds are taken from my own voice, and are derived from my introduction to the pieces in the concert. In the performance of ‘imagined community’ for choir and electronics, the live electronics always respond to the gestures of the choir in the performance. In ‘imagined method’ the ‘live’ and ‘imagined’ voices seem to trigger and respond to each other, as well as each being created from aspects of the other.
The piece takes its name from an amalgam of ‘a common method’ and ‘imagined community’, the two other pieces in this series. This reflects that it also takes its materials from these two pieces.
